Ofcom confirms plans to simplify UK phone call charges from 2015

Clearer pricing for numbers beginning 08, 09 and 118

UK telecoms regulator Ofcom says it’ll simplify fixed-line and mobile phone call charges from 2015.

There’ll be clearer pricing for ‘non-geographic’ numbers that start 08, 09 and 118. In addition, calls that begin 080 will always be free from mobile phones as well as from landlines.

Ofcom publishes ‘Easy Read’ mobile phone guide for people with learning difficulties

Telecoms regulator Ofcom has become the first UK regulatory body to publish consumer advice in the ‘Easy Read’ format, which is designed to be more accessible to people with learning difficulties.

The ‘How to use your mobile phone’ guide meets current European and UK Government standards for making written information easily understandable. It includes details about mobile phone handsets, different types of contract agreement, free services for disabled customers and how to complain.

Vodafone falls slightly short of Ofcom's 3G coverage target

Ofcom has published the results of its assessment into whether or not the UK’s ‘big four’ mobile phone networks have met their 3G coverage obligations.

Although the 3G 2100MHz mobile spectrum licences originally only required networks to cover 80% of the UK population with 3G service, the government later increased this obligation to 90% population coverage. The deadline for meeting this requirement was 30th June 2013.
