Less than 1 in 20 smartphones and tablets have third party security software

Figures from Juniper Research suggest that fewer than 4% of smartphones and tablets have third party security software.

However, awareness of the need for mobile security will increase, with mobile security software providers expected to enjoy a $3.6 billion market by 2016.

Dolby says BlackBerry smartphones and PlayBook tablet infringe its audio patents

Dolby Laboratories has filed patent infringement lawsuits against Research In Motion, claiming that RIM is using Dolby's digital audio compression technology in some of its BlackBerry smartphones and its PlayBook tablets without having obtained licences.

The legal action has been filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California and the District Court of Mannheim in Germany.

Vodafone Foundation launches app competition to help older people and those with special needs

The Vodafone Foundation charity has launched the EU Smart Accessibility Awards, offering a €200,000 prize fund to application developers who help improve the lives of older people and people with disabilities across the European Union.

There are €50,000 prizes for the best Android application in four different categories:
