Carphone Warehouse results show 'considerable success', says CEO

Carphone Warehouse Group plc has published its preliminary results for the financial year ended 31st March 2011.

It says its share of Best Buy Europe's net income was up 28% year-on-year to £60.4 million, while CPW Europe grew 18% to £134.6 million. However, Best Buy UK saw a loss of £62.2 million.

Apple agrees to pay Nokia as patent litigation ends

Nokia has signed a patent license agreement with Apple that'll see all patent litigation settled between the companies.

The specific terms of the contract are confidential, although there'll be a one-off payment payable by Apple and on-going royalties paid by Apple to Nokia for the term of the agreement.

Qualcomm to acquire semiconductor technology business

Qualcomm Incorporated has agreed to acquire Rapid Bridge LLC, a San Diego-based semiconductor technology business.

The deal is expected to be completed by the end of the 2011 financial year.

T-Mobile, the Information Commissioner's Office and the stolen customer information

Mark Bridge writes:

The Information Commissioner's Office - the UK authority that upholds information rights - has published details of its recent case involving T-Mobile. Contact information and expiry dates for minimum-term contracts were being sold to third parties, enabling mobile phone dealers to target potential customers who were in a position to sign a new contract... which could earn the dealer hundreds of pounds for a new connection.

On Monday there seemed to be a dearth of mobile news as the industry held its breath and waited for Steve Jobs to speak.

Why there was quite so much breath-holding beats me, because Apple had already told us what the announcement was going to cover. Anyway, we learned about iOS 5, which will arrive in the autumn, and its 200 new features – including a new messaging service called iMessage.
