Samsung moves closer to Apple as tablet sales pass 41 million for Q1 2014

New estimates from ABI Research show that 41.3 million branded tablets were shipped worldwide in the first calendar quarter of 2014.

Apple and Samsung accounted for 71% of the total, putting them well ahead of their competitors.

Heavy mobile phone use could be linked with brain tumours, reports new French study

A study carried out in France between 2004 and 2006 has found a potential association between mobile phone use and nervous system tumours (gliomas and meningiomas) in adults.

It’s been published in the June edition of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

There'll be more than 7 million WiFi hotspots around the world in 2015

Last year, the number of WiFi hotspots around the world increased to 4.2 million.

ABI Research says this trend is expected to continue for the next few years, with a compound annual growth rate of 15% resulting in 7.1 million hotspots in 2015 and over 10.5 million in 2018.

Feature phone upgraders appear to be choosing Android

The latest mobile industry analysis from ​ABI Research show that that Android is still dominating quarterly shipment figures.

Its report for Q1 2014 shows Android (including the Android Open Source Project) accounting for 80% of all smartphone shipments.
