ASA says giffgaff's Twitter advertising was likely to cause offence

A video advertisement from Telefonica-owned UK MVNO giffgaff was likely to cause serious or widespread offence, according to a ruling by the Advertising Standards Authority.

The video clip was promoted via giffgaff’s Twitter account, which was also available via an embedded feed on the giffgaff website. As well as showing a link to the video clip, the tweet said “The situations in our new videos are, well, awkward. #NSFW #alltheboss”.

Over two thirds of mobile ads are seen on Samsung and Apple devices

Millennial Media has used data from its mobile advertising platform, which processes billions of mobile ad requests every month, and compiled them in a new Mobile Mix study that focuses on the Europe, Middle East, and Africa device markets.

It reports that 81% of the European population has a mobile phone, with 42% owning smartphones. The overall figures for EMEA are 65% mobile penetration and 25% with a smartphone.

Yahoo! agrees to acquire mobile app analytics business Flurry

Yahoo! has agreed to acquire Flurry, a US-based business that provides mobile app developers with information about the people using their apps as well as providing insight to advertisers and publishers.

Flurry currently sees activity from more than 540,000 smartphone and tablet apps on over 1.4 billion devices worldwide. At the moment it’s used by 170,000 developers.
