Vodafone Germany introduces SIM-based encryption for email and documents

Vodafone Germany and mobile security specialist Giesecke & Devrient have revealed an end-to-end encryption service based on a customer’s SIM card.

The service, which is called Secure SIM Data, can be used to encrypt and sign emails, documents, data carriers and VPN connections.

David Cameron talks about UK/German mobile technology partnerships as CeBIT opens

In a speech opening the CeBIT international IT and telecom trade show in Hanover, UK Prime Minister David Cameron has said the UK should be working more closely with Germany on 5G mobile technology, the Internet of Things and the ‘digital’ European single market.

He’s announced £45 million of new funding for research in areas linked to the ‘Internet of Things’ and new collaboration between the University of Dresden, London-based King’s College University and the University of Surrey to develop 5G.

Carphone Warehouse to run Samsung-branded mobile phone shops across Europe

Samsung Electronics says it’s signed a ‘preferred partner’ agreement that’ll see Carphone Warehouse operating over 60 Samsung stand-alone stores across Europe.

It follows the opening of three Carphone Warehouse-run Samsung stores in Spain last year.

1 in 7 European smartphone owners have shopped on their devices

New data from the comScore MobiLens service has shown how smartphones are increasingly associated with retail shopping in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Overall, one in five European smartphone users had used their handset to access a retail web site, with more than a quarter of UK smartphone owners visiting retail web sites on their phones.

One-click mobile payments introduced by mopay

Online payment specialist mopay has introduced a new service that lets customers charge web site purchases to their mobile phone account with a single click.

The new process is currently being offered via Telefonica and Vodafone in Germany.
