In yesterday's conference call for investors, Sanjay Jha - Motorola co-CEO and chief exec of its Mobile Devices division – confirmed the company had sold 2 million smartphones in the fourth quarter of 2009.
He then said "we are just at the beginning stage of our transition to a smartphone company" before later adding "going forward, we'll continue to tightly manage operating expenses as we 'dial down' in some areas, including feature phones, and redirect resources into smartphone innovation, supporting new product launches and building our brand".

When the Apple iPad appeared on Apple's Australian website yesterday, it was quickly noted that the iBooks application was missing. And now the iPad is on the Apple UK site, also without iBooks. Even the UK promotional video is 45 seconds shorter than the US version because the entire iBooks section is missing, while the company's USA site now points out that "iBooks is available only in the U.S."
