Launch of the 'first standalone connected car smartphone'

Israeli telecoms company Accel Telecom has launched what it’s described as the ‘first standalone connected car smartphone’ at Mobile World Congress.

The company’s VOYAGER device can be installed in any car and requires its own SIM card, enabling it to be used with an existing phone number on networks that offer ‘multi-SIM’ working.

The GSMA has announced the winners of the 18th Global Mobile Awards at a ceremony hosted by David Walliams yesterday afternoon.

‘Best smartphone’ was awarded to the Samsung Galaxy SIII, while the Best feature phone prize went to the Nokia Asha 305.

Bullitt Mobile, which produces the Cat range of mobile phones for construction equipment company Caterpillar, has launched a new rugged Android smartphone.

The Cat B15 has been designed to withstand a 1.8 metre drop and being submerged in water.

LG acquires webOS mobile operating system for its smart TVs

LG Electronics has acquired the webOS operating system - originally created by Palm four years ago - from HP. This includes the webOS source code, documentation, engineering talent and related websites.

In addition, HP will also license LG to use patent that cover system and user interface technologies with its webOS products.

Visa and Samsung sign a global agreement to promote mobile NFC payments

Visa and Samsung have announced a partnership that combines Visa’s expertise in payments with Samsung’s mobile technology.

It’ll enable financial institutions to download payment account information to NFC-enabled Samsung devices via the Visa Mobile Provisioning Service.
