Doro wins legal case over Duro brand

Following legal action by Swedish mobile phone company Doro, Polish company TelForceOne has been forbidden from manufacturing, exporting or advertising mobile phones using its DURO brand. This is a preliminary ruling referring to mobile phones with keypads that are similar to Doro designs.

In addition, all Duro-branded phones are to be impounded.

2.2 million patients are monitored via mobile or fixed-line connections

A new research report from Berg Insight has calculated that around 2.2 million patients worldwide are currently using equipment that includes a home monitoring service with integrated connectivity.

This figure only includes systems with integrated connectivity or monitoring hubs with built-in cellular or fixed-line modems and doesn’t include patients with monitoring devices connected to a separate PC or mobile phone.

Orange Switzerland to be sold

France Telecom-Orange has announced an agreement to sell Orange Switzerland to investment group Apax Partners in a deal worth 2 billion Swiss Francs (£1.37 billion).

The arrangement is subject to regulatory approval.

A fifth of online retail visits expected to be from mobile devices next year

US-based eCommerce business Shopatron predicts that the percentage of visits to its retail partners from mobile devices will grow to between 18% and 20% by the end of 2012.

It’s seen the number of mobile visits to Shopatron brand partners grow from 6.5% to 12.2% this year.

Femtocell shipments in 2011 were lower than expected, says ABI Research

Around 2.5 million femtocells were shipped worldwide this year according to ABI Research, substantially less than the three to four million previously expected.

An increase in femtocell commercial operator contracts - a total of 88 in 2011 - had led to expectations of increased shipments.
