Is it the end for Symbian… and for Garmin-Asus, too?

Two rumoured reports of closures: the Symbian Foundation and the Garmin-Asus partnership.

The resignation of Symbian's Lee Williams, followed by Nokia's new focus on Qt, has led to rumours that new executive director Tim Holbrow – previously Chief Finance Officer – will be winding down the foundation within the next six months.

Garmin could close smartphone business next year

Garmin's Chief Financial Officer Kevin Rauckman has admitted to Reuters that the company's nüvifone navigation-focussed smartphone hasn't done as well as expected. In an interview he said the company would decide within the next six months whether it would continue investing in its partnership with Asus.

Garmin warns about data costs for mobile phone sat nav

Satellite navigation company Garmin has warned mobile phone users about the 'hidden' costs of using smartphone sat-nav services that download maps over the mobile internet. They've calculated that users can end up with a phone bill more expensive than the cost of the fuel used for their journey.
