Luxury smartphone manufacturer Vertu launches its second Android handset

British-based luxury handset manufacturer Vertu has released a new smartphone called the Constellation.

It’s the company’s second Android phone, following the Ti that was announced in February.

Luxury phone business Vertu launches its first Android smartphone

UK mobile phone manufacturer Vertu, which was owned by Nokia until last year, has announced its first Android handset.

The company, established as a luxury phone maker 15 years ago, had previously used Nokia’s Symbian platform.

Former Nokia executive Anssi Vanjoki joins newly-independent Vertu

The sale of UK-based luxury mobile phone company Vertu has now been completed, with private equity fund EQT VI taking control of the business from Nokia.

Around 1,000 employees have moved to Vertu, although Nokia is retaining a 10% shareholding in the company.

What next for Nokia?

Oh, how cheerful we were last Monday. Apple previewed iOS6, which will bring mobile tickets (and 200 other new features) to the iPhone and iPad this autumn. Vodafone cut the cost of using your phone in Europe with its flat-rate £3-per-day EuroTraveller deal and a few days later Three came up with its own ‘unlimited’ European data roaming.

Yet by the end of the week there were fewer smiles in the mobile industry.
