A quarter of all households around the world now have WiFi

A new report from Strategy Analytics shows that over 450 million households worldwide currently have a WiFi connection, which is a 5% increase from last year.

The UK is fourth on the list with 72.1% penetration, behind Norway (76.2%), South Korea (76.4%) and the Netherlands (80.4%).

There'll be one WiFi hotspot for every 20 people on Earth by 2018, says new research

International WiFi service provider iPass has published a growth map that shows how public WiFi hotspots are being deployed around the world.

It uses data from wireless market analysts Maravedis-Rethink, revealing there’ll be 47.7 million public WiFi hotspots available worldwide by the end of 2014.

Samsung Electronics boosts WiFi speed to five times faster

Samsung Electronics says it’s developed WiFi technology for the 60GHz spectrum that’s capable of transferring data five times faster than existing consumer equipment.

Data speeds of up to 4.6Gbps have been achieved by Samsung, which is more than a five-fold increase from the current maximum of 866Mbps.

New 'BT One Phone' service combines fixed-line PBX features with mobile connectivity

BT has announced a new business mobile phone service called BT One Phone. It combines the features of a conventional fixed-line PBX switchboard with mobile technology.

The new service follows the creation of a joint venture earlier this year between Sweden’s OnePhone Holding and BT.
