Essar agrees to sell stake in India's Vodafone Essar network

Vodafone Group, Essar Communications (Mauritius) Limited and ETHL Communications Holdings Limited have agreed terms that'll see ECML and ECHL selling their shareholdings in Vodafone Essar Limited. ECML's subsidiaries held 22% of Vodafone Essar Ltd, while ECHL has a 11% shareholding.

It'll mark the end of a four-year partnership between Vodafone and Essar in India.

European roaming charges fall again

The maximum charge for mobile phone calls in Europe has fallen again, thanks to the European Commission's 2009 ruling on mobile phone charges.

Consumers on any standard UK tariff will now receive the so-called 'Eurotariff' of no more than 35 Euro cents per minute for calls made (38p incl. VAT) and 11 cents (12p incl. VAT) per minute for calls received while abroad in the EU.

Nortel sells patent portfolio to consortium of Apple, EMC, Ericsson, Microsoft, RIM and Sony

Nortel Networks Limited has auctioned all Nortel's remaining patents and patent applications to a consortium of Apple, EMC, Ericsson, Microsoft, Research In Motion and Sony.

The consortium's bid was $4.5 billion; RIM has confirmed its portion of the deal is approximately $770 million.
