Nokia Q3 figures show another quarterly loss

Nokia Corporation has published its quarterly results for the third quarter of 2012. Net sales were down 19% on the same quarter last year to €7.24 billion and the company made a much bigger loss than it did in Q3 2011: €576 million compared with €71 million last year.

However, the loss was less than the two previous quarters.

Former Nokia executive Anssi Vanjoki joins newly-independent Vertu

The sale of UK-based luxury mobile phone company Vertu has now been completed, with private equity fund EQT VI taking control of the business from Nokia.

Around 1,000 employees have moved to Vertu, although Nokia is retaining a 10% shareholding in the company.

MeeGo-based Jolla mobile user interface to debut next month

In July we reported that a new Finnish company called Jolla had been formed from a team of specialists that had worked on the MeeGo-powered Nokia N9. It planned to release a smartphone with a new user interface based on MeeGo.

A few days ago Jolla Ltd announced a new ecosystem alliance to support a MeeGo-based mobile OS codenamed ‘Sailfish’ and today it’s confirmed a date for the public unveiling of its user interface.

3 months using a Nokia Lumia 800

The last time I used a Microsoft based mobile phone was 2008 in the form of the HTC Hermes. Since then Apple and Android have dominated my mobile life. It was therefore with more than a little trepidation that I switched over to Windows Phone 7.5 in the form of the Lumia 800 in July this year. Since then I’m continually being asked what I think of the phone and the operating system. Here are my experiences and thoughts.
