A UK-based business has launched an internet search engine designed specifically for smartphone users. The only results returned are those linking to mobile-optimised websites.
Mazoom, which operates mazoom.mobi, provides news, local business information and information about mobile apps in the UK and the USA.
New figures from the UK Internet Advertising Bureau reveal that advertising on the internet and on mobile phones has increased by 12.6% to £2.6 billion in the first half of 2012. That’s a £294 million increase from the first half of 2011.
Digital advertising on mobile devices is up 132% to £181.5 million, driven by increasing smartphone ownership.

It’s reported that Apple has acquired Chomp, an online service that allows users to search for applications based on their functions.
Apple is believed to have paid around $50 million, although financial details haven’t been confirmed.

The Google Goggles visual search application is being used for the first time in the UK by French Connection, Garnier, Sony Music and Samsung as part of their poster advertising.
Customers that activate Google Goggles and point their smartphone at the posters will receive additional content via the internet.
