Android devices are the fastest-growing smartphone sector, says research

Mobile and wireless research firm iSuppli Corp says its Q2 2010 list of the fastest-growing smartphone manufacturers is dominated by companies utilising the Android operating system.

HP to only use webOS in smartphones

Hewlett-Packard, which announced a takeover of Palm earlier this year, says future HP smartphones will only run the webOS operating system.

In an interview with CNBC, HP Executive Vice President Todd Bradley said his company will continue to work with Microsoft but will only use the Palm-designed webOS for new smartphone devices.

Linux-based operating systems to dominate non-smartphone mobile devices

report from ABI Research expects that Linux-based operating systems – including Google’s Android and forthcoming Chrome OS - will comprise 62% of operating systems shipped in all non-smartphone mobile devices by 2015. Other Linux-based systems include MeeGo and the Palm webOS.
