British Airways to let passengers use mobile phones before the plane has stopped

It’s reported that British Airways will soon let passengers switch on their mobile phones as soon as a plane has landed and left the runway.

At the moment, passengers are required to keep electronic equipment switched off until the aircraft has stopped.

Mobile boarding passes being trialled by easyJet in the UK

UK airline easyJet is trialling mobile boarding passes for flights from Stansted, Southend, Manchester, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Nice airports.

Passengers can download their boarding pass to the easyJet app on iPhones or Android devices, with a mobile web app due to be added later this year.

OnAir and Inmarsat plan 50Mbps mobile broadband on aircraft in a couple of years

In-flight GSM and WiFi connection specialist OnAir has signed an agreement with mobile satellite communications business Inmarsat to provide high-speed broadband connectivity for the aeronautical market.

It’ll make OnAir the first Aviation Distribution Partner for Inmarsat’s ultra-fast Ka-band Global Xpress network.

British Airways to announce smartphone boarding passes

British Airways is launching a smartphone application that'll let customers check-in and board flights using their mobile phones, according to a report in New Media Age. The app, which is due to be revealed on Monday, will let Executive Club members generate an on-screen boarding pass for London to Edinburgh flights.
