Samsung moves closer to Apple as tablet sales pass 41 million for Q1 2014

New estimates from ABI Research show that 41.3 million branded tablets were shipped worldwide in the first calendar quarter of 2014.

Apple and Samsung accounted for 71% of the total, putting them well ahead of their competitors.

There'll be more than 7 million WiFi hotspots around the world in 2015

Last year, the number of WiFi hotspots around the world increased to 4.2 million.

ABI Research says this trend is expected to continue for the next few years, with a compound annual growth rate of 15% resulting in 7.1 million hotspots in 2015 and over 10.5 million in 2018.

Over a third of mobile workers choose coffee shops for their WiFi rather than the drinks

A recent survey published by Samsung Electronics has found that 37% of UK workers choose coffee shops based on the availability of free WiFi rather the quality of the tea or coffee.

WiFi was at the top of the list when people chose a ‘mobile working’ venue - 60% of respondents said it was important - with the ability to print coming in second place.
