New Sony Mobile phablet has 6.4-inch HD screen and 2.2GHz quad-core processor

Sony Mobile has announced a new device that bridges the gap between smartphone and tablet.

The Xperia Z Ultra has a 6.4-inch HD display and runs Android on a 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It’s 4G-capable, offers HD voice and is also waterproof and dust-resistant.

Cars are expected to have 4.3 billion installed apps by the end of 2018

ABI Research expects a dramatic increase in the number of automotive apps downloaded in cars during the next five years.

It forecasts a jump from around 12 million at the end of last year to 4.3 billion at the end of 2018, with revenue of $1.67 billion (£1.08 billion) being generated worldwide.

Vodafone has announced plans to acquire German cable TV and telephone business Kabel Deutschland in a deal worth £6.6 billion.

The plans have been welcomed by the management of Kabel Deutschland, which is expected to recommend that shareholders accept the offer.

Telefonica agrees to sell O2 Ireland to Hutchison Whampoa’s Three brand

Network operator Telefónica has agreed to sell its Telefónica Ireland business, which trades as O2, to the Three subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa.

The deal is worth €850 million (£722 million), with €780 million paid when the deal is completed and a further €70 million paid if financial targets are met.
