Telefonica blames 'error' and 'oversight' for O2 ads that breached UK advertising code

Two complaints about promotional material for Telefonica’s O2 Travel service have been upheld by the UK Advertising Standards Authority.

An in-flight magazine ad promoted O2 Travel without mentioning the daily limit, while the O2 website promoted a collection of apps and services for travellers but didn’t explain how much data these could use.

Ad-funded MVNO Samba Mobile closes

Advertising-funded virtual network Samba Mobile has closed down in the UK… just a month after rival MVNO Ovivo Mobile ceased trading.

Samba Mobile was formed in 2010 and launched its mobile network in 2012.

Mobile location-based advertising will be worth more than 10 billion euro in 2018

A new research report from telecoms analyst Berg Insight expects the total value of the real-time mobile location-based advertising and marketing market to reach €10.7 billion (£8.8 billion) in 2018.

That’s a compound annual growth rate of 54% when compared with last year’s global total of €1.2 billion.

Facebook now has more than a billion users on mobile devices every month

Facebook has announced its latest quarterly earnings figures and has also revealed details of the social network’s mobile-based users.

The number of monthly active users (MAUs) was up 15% year-on-year to 1.28 billion, with mobile MAUs up 34% to 1.01 billion.
