Ofcom data reveals levels of customer service provided by UK mobile networks

Ofcom’s latest quarterly report into the customer service provided by landline, broadband, mobile phone and pay TV companies shows a significant change in the mobile sector.

Overall, thousands of consumers who’d contacted their provider between July and September 2012 were asked to rate the customer service they’d received. 67% of mobile phone users were satisfied with their network’s customer service, compared with 62% of fixed broadband users, 64% of landline customers and 69% of pay TV subscribers.

Leeds and Bradford to launch free WiFi with Virgin Media Business

Virgin Media Business has won its bid to provide a free public WiFi service to Bradford and Leeds city centres.

The service will be operated on behalf of Virgin Media Business by Global Reach Technology and will launch in Leeds’ Briggate and Bradford’s Bridge Street later this month. Millennium Square in Leeds and City Park in Bradford will be added in early 2013.

EE and Vodafone to offer free WiFi access on the London Underground

Virgin Media, which offers WiFi on 72 London Underground stations and plans to add a further 48 stations in the next few weeks, has agreed a wholesale deal with EE and Vodafone.

It means that Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile and EE mobile customers will be offered free WiFi connectivity when this year’s free access ends.

Fonehouse appoints new CEO as Clive Bayley becomes group chairman

UK mobile phone retailer Fonehouse has appointed Simon Douglas to the new role of CEO, while Managing Director Clive Bayley is moving to become group chairman.

Mr Douglas was previously MD of Virgin Megastores and oversaw the management buy-out that transformed the company into Zavvi 5 years ago.
