Electronic devices, including mobile phones and laptop computers, may now need to be switched on as part of the security screening process for hand baggage.

Privacy-focussed smartphone Blackphone begins shipping

SGP Technologies, the joint venture between Silent Circle and Geeksphone, has announced that its Blackphone smartphones have started shipping to customers.

The privacy-focussed device, which was launched ahead of Mobile World Congress 2014, is based on the Android OS but also offers encrypted calls and encrypted text messaging.

UK consumers increasingly concerned about smartphone theft

Inhance Technology, which offers smartphone protection software, has published new research that shows 21% of UK consumers are more worried about being mugged for their smartphone or tablet than they were 12 months ago.

The figure is higher for women (26% feel more vulnerable) and for young adults aged 18-34 (30%).

How mobile phone retailers must embrace technology to diagnose phone faults

Amir Lehr of Cellebrite writes:

Mobile phone faults pose a daily problem for mobile phone retailers. According to mobile diagnostics expert Cellebrite, 60 per cent of cases are software-related issues with the smartphone, and can be resolved within minutes.
