Initial findings from the GSMA’s 2013 Mobile Money Adoption Survey show there are now 208 live ‘mobile money for the unbanked’ services running in 83 countries, with an additional 117 deployments already planned.
That compares with 178 services across 74 countries in January.

Barclays has added two new options to its Pingit mobile app, which was launched in February last year.
From today the app can be used for mobile-based online purchases and for buying from a print or on-screen advertisement.

A report from Juniper Research expects the worldwide value of mobile commerce transactions to exceed $3.2 trillion (£2.1 trillion) by 2017, up from $1.5 trillion this year.
The banking sector is expected to account for the majority of this value, thanks to the increasing use of mobile devices to pay bills online.

Santander UK and mobile payment company iZettle have announced a UK partnership agreement aimed at self‑employed professionals and small businesses.
Santander Business Banking is offering customers a mobile payment package that includes iZettle’s Chip & PIN reader, which can be used with Apple and Android devices.
