UK becomes one of the world’s top ten information and communication technology economies

The International Telecommunication Union - the United Nations’ agency for Information and Communication technologies - has published its latest figures showing how the uptake of ICT is growing around the world.

Its latest annual report ranks the Republic of Korea (South Korea) as the world’s most advanced ICT economy, followed by Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland. The UK is a new entry in the ICT top ten, moving up from last year’s 14th place to 9th place in 2012.

Ofcom publishes its latest telecoms complaint data

UK telecoms regulator Ofcom has published a new quarterly report that shows the most complained-about telephone and pay TV suppliers.

Complaints about mobile phone services are now being classified as ‘pay monthly’ and ‘pay as you go’ (pre-pay) customers. Ofcom says around 95% of mobile complaints come from users with ‘pay monthly’ contracts, with the number of ‘pay as you go’ complaints currently too low to be statistically valid.

New Virgin Mobile tariffs offer unlimited data plus smartphone insurance

Virgin Media has launched a number of new ‘pay monthly’ mobile phone tariffs today, including an unlimited data deal.

The ‘Premiere’ tariff offers unlimited data, unlimited text messaging, unlimited voice calls to UK landlines and 2,500 minutes for calling UK mobiles every month (subject to terms & conditions). It’s priced at £26 per month for a two-year minimum term, with a £5 monthly discount available for customers who already subscribe to other Virgin Media services at home.

Everything Everywhere, Orange and T-Mobile: how much longer for three brands?

Swindon to get 4G LTE broadband service this year

UK Broadband has announced that Swindon will be the UK’s first local authority to benefit from 4G LTE technology across the borough.

The first commercial 4G broadband service in the UK was launched by UK Broadband a few weeks ago.
