Huawei claims new quad-core smartphone is world's fastest

Huawei has announced the Ascend D quad, described as “the world’s fastest smartphone”.

It’s powered by the company’s own quad-core processor, which apparently reaches 1.5GHz, runs on the Android 4.0 operating system and is equipped with Huawei’s proprietary power management system, providing up to 30% power saving compared to other devices. The 1800mAh battery is claimed to last for up to two days under normal usage.

Two new smartphones announced by Sony Mobile

Sony Mobile Communications - formerly Sony Ericsson but now wholly-owned by Sony - has announced two new smartphones on the eve of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Joining the Xperia S in the company’s Xperia NXT smartphone series are the Xperia P and Xperia U.

Orange UK introduces NFC loyalty scheme

Orange UK has revealed an NFC-based loyalty scheme called ‘Quick Tap Treats’ in partnership with the EAT restaurant chain.

Customers with a compatible NFC-equipped Orange phone will be able to to tap their handset against a special poster at any participating EAT outlet. They’ll then be directed to a mobile game, with winners receiving a voucher for a free treat. Options include free food, free drinks and ‘upgrades’ to larger portions.
