Review: CAT Active Urban rugged phone case for iPhone 5 and 5s

As someone who has been through more iPhone screens than I’d like to remember, when I recently upgraded to an iPhone 5s I was keen to keep it in one piece - for a few months at least. Cue the new CAT Active Urban Phone Case, which claims to protect your phones from falls of up to 1.8 meters using a reinforced material that can also be found in protective equipment for motor bike riders.

iZettle releases SDK for developers to add card payment services into mobile applications

Mobile payment provider iZettle has released its first software development kit for developers. It follows the release of iZettle’s API in 2012.

The free iOS SDK makes it easier for developers to add payment services to their mobile applications in any of the nine countries where iZettle operates.

Nokia annual results show a return to profit

The latest financial results from Nokia show the company making a net profit of €41 million for 2013, which compares favourably with a €1.483 billion loss in 2012. Annual net sales for the group were €12.7 billion, down 17% year-on-year.

Nokia’s NSN division - which manufactures network equipment and will be the main part of the company when its devices and services is taken over by Microsoft - made a net profit of €15 million, compared with a net loss of €1.4 billion in 2012.

UK consumers now protected against mid-contract landline, broadband and mobile price rises

New Ofcom guidance comes into force today, enabling consumers and small businesses to leave their landline, broadband or mobile contracts without penalty if their service provider increases the monthly subscription price unexpectedly.

The guidance, which applies to all new contracts, also notes that customers should be given at least a month’s notice of any monthly changes.

T-Mobile USA launches a 'Mobile Money' service with smartphone app and prepaid debit card

T-Mobile US has launched a new financial service that it’s calling ‘Mobile Money by T-Mobile’.

It combines an Android or iOS app with a Visa prepaid card that has no monthly maintenance fee and no charge for many ATM withdrawals.
