BOLT mobile browser releases v2.0 beta with tabbed browsing

Bitstream, the company behind the BOLT mobile browser, has announced the beta release of BOLT 2.0. The new web browser has tabbed browsing for multiple websites and also offers tighter integration with Facebook.

BOLT has been downloaded by over 5 million users since it was launched in February last year. It's been designed to deliver a PC-like browsing experience and streaming video on most current mobile phones, from feature phones to smartphones.

Nuance T9 Trace touchscreen typing threatens Swype

Swype, which recently been involved in a touchscreen text messaging world record, has a new rival. The challenger comes from speech-to-text company Nuance and is called Nuance T9 Trace.

As with Swype, Nuance T9 Trace lets touchscreen phone owners write messages by sliding their finger from one letter to another. The system integrates with Nuance XT9, which offers word prediction and error correction.

MX Telecom acquired by Amdocs for $104 million

Amdocs, which describes itself as a leading provider of customer experience systems, has acquired UK-based mobile payments and messaging aggregator MX Telecom for approximately $104 million (£69 million)

MX Telecom will become part of Amdocs' OpenMarket business, extending the organisation's global footprint.

New Guinness World Record for fastest-ever text message

A new Guinness World Record has been set for the fastest text message on a touchscreen mobile phone. It's a new category – previous attempts have used a physical keypad – and was set using Swype technology on the Samsung Omnia II smartphone.

The record was set by Franklin Page, who's previously worked for Swype. He wrote the official world record phrase in 35.54 seconds: "The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human".
