Spain gets GSMA's joyn across all major networks

Spain’s three main mobile network operators - Movistar, Orange and Vodafone - have each launched Rich Communication Services (RCS) through the GSMA’s consumer-facing joyn brand.

It means that Spain has become the first country to offer this type of cross-network rich communications solution to mobile phone users.

New GSMA report shows how mobile communications and economic growth are linked

The GSMA and professional services firm Deloitte LLP have released a report that looks at the economic benefits of mobile telephone services.

It notes that an increase in mobile data use has led to an increase in the GDP per capita growth rate, as has a move from 2G to 3G service.

GSMA forecasts 3.2 billion mobile subscribers worldwide this year

Most people in the world still don't have a mobile phone

The GSMA, the trade organisation that represents more than a thousand companies in the mobile industry, has published new research that shows the industry still has plenty of growth potential.

Total mobile connections worldwide are expected to reach 6.8 billion by the fourth quarter of this year. When machine-to machine communications and inactive SIM cards are excluded, the figure is 5.9 billion connections.

The major programmes and initiatives driven by the Wholesale Applications Community are being integrated into the GSMA following an agreement between both organisations.

Apigee, a US-based business that helps organisations deliver and manage APIs and the apps built on them, has acquired the technology assets of WAC.
