There’s plenty of snow disrupting the UK – but, thanks to the mobile telecoms industry, thousands upon thousands of people are able to work from home. We’re all feeling pretty pleased with ourselves right now, aren’t we?

Pedestrians may have been skating down pavements but a different kind of trouble on the high street dominated much of last week as music, DVD and occasional mobile phone retailer HMV went into administration.

Facebook expands its VoIP mobile calling service to the USA

Facebook has enhanced the iOS version of its Messenger application to enable users in the USA to speak to each other without paying call charges.

The VoIP feature was originally launched in Canada earlier this month.

BT announces VoIP app for fixed-line customers with an iPhone

BT has launched a new application that’ll let its fixed-line customers use an Apple iPhone for calls, with charges added to their home account. The SmartTalk app is free and will work over WiFi or a mobile data connection.

Calls made via the app - whether in the UK or abroad - are billed as if the user was calling from their BT home phone.

One in seven mobile subscribers will be using VoIP in 2017

Over 1 billion people will be using ‘over the top’ mobile VoIP services by 2017, according to a new report from Juniper Research.

That’s the equivalent of one out of every seven mobile phone subscribers worldwide.
