London minicab company puts free WiFi in all its cars

greentomatocars, which was established in 2006 as London’s first green minicab company, is now offering free WiFi in all its vehicles. It’s thought to be the first passenger car company in Europe to install a mobile hotspot service.

The company operates 300 Toyota Prius hybrid cars as well as people carriers and executive vehicles in the capital.

Samba Mobile brings free ad-funded mobile broadband to the UK

A new UK virtual mobile network called Samba Mobile is promising a mobile broadband service without any running costs.

Customers pay £2.99 for a SIM card plus £2.00 post & packing and then watch video ads to ‘top up’ their account with credit. A 3G ‘dongle’ will be available in the future.

Britain leads Europe when it comes to WiFi on trains

A new report from telecoms consulting firm BWCS shows that the UK has broadband wireless services on more trains than any other European country.

There are now 2,000 WiFi-equipped railway carriages in the UK, putting the country ahead of its closest rivals Germany (with 911 carriages) and Italy (with 995 carriages). France is even further behind with just 416 WiFi carriages.

O2 expands its Priority loyalty scheme to create a digital sports club

Nike and O2 have teamed up to create an online sports club called Priority Sports. It’ll work via an iOS and Android mobile app, offering a combination of online and offline services and experiences.

Priority Sports is an expansion of the current O2 Priority loyalty scheme, which provides shopping offers and advance tickets for music events.

Foxconn International Holdings seeks new CEO

Foxconn International Holdings, which is part of the Hon Hai Precision Industry Company and best known for its work producing the Apple iPhone and iPad, has confirmed that CEO Cheng Tien Chong has tendered his resignation.

Mr Cheng wishes to retire to spend more time with his family and to improve his health. No date for his retirement has been confirmed.
