Sony to launch PlayStation Mobile this autumn

Sony Computer Entertainment says it’ll start the full-scale launch of PlayStation Mobile in the autumn.

The service, previously named PlayStation Suite, will bring Sony PlayStation games to a variety of mobile devices. This initial launch will include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, the UK and the USA.

Mobile gaming is taking over at home, says new research

A new survey released by PopCap Games, which became part of Electronic Arts (EA) in 2011, shows that half of UK and US mobile gamers also use their mobile devices as their primary game platform at home.

50% of the mobile phone and tablet gamers in the survey preferred to use their mobile devices instead of traditional consoles, computers and handheld gaming devices, with tablet-only players showing an even higher preference (57%) for their mobile device.

Almost half of UK and US adults play mobile games

A new survey from PopCap Games, the division of EA responsible for hits including Bejeweled and Plants vs Zombies, has announced the results of its third survey of mobile games consumption. It’s calculated there are now more than 125 million people playing mobile games in the UK and the USA.

44% of adults surveyed had played at least one mobile game in the past month, which was an increase of 29% from a year ago.

Mobile entertainment will be worth £42 billion by 2016

Juniper Research has published a report that shows growth from games and infotainment applications, helped by the increasing number of tablet devices, will help mobile entertainment revenue increase to more than $65 billion (£42 billion) annually by 2016. In comparison, last year’s total was $36 billion.

However, while overall entertainment revenues are expected to increase steadily, not every sector will do well.
