New report says over 250 million smartphones sold in 2015 will be NFC enabled

Last week we saw figures from Juniper Research that predicted almost 300 million NFC-capable smartphones by 2014, the equivalent of at least 1 in 5 worldwide.

This week Pyramid Research is also predicting a dramatic increase in NFC phones. By 2015, it reckons 28% of total smartphone sales - around 250 million units - will be NFC-enabled devices.

Apple says Samsung Galaxy tablet and smartphones infringe patents

Apple is taking legal action against Samsung, claiming that a number of Samsung smartphones and the Samsung Galaxy Tab infringe a number of Apple patents and trademarks.

The lawsuit was filed on Friday in the Northern District of California.

Huawei annual profit up 30 per cent

Chinese telecoms company Huawei Technologies has released its full-year 2010 financial results today. Sales revenues were up 24.2% year-on-year to CNY 185.2 billion (around £17.4 billion), with net profit up 30% to CNY 23.8 billion.

It shipped over 120 million units of product in 2010, achieving sales of CNY 30.7 billion.

Blyk appointed to manage media sales for 'Orange Shots' UK mobile advertising service

Mobile messaging media company Blyk has been appointed to manage all elements of Orange UK's media sales program.

The two companies started working together on Blyk's MVNO in 2007. Blyk is now building a media sales function dedicated to the 'Orange Shots' mobile advertising service in the UK.

O2 to offer International Calling Card distributed by Elite Mobile

Telefonica's acquisition of voice over IP service Jajah in 2010 has led to the launch of O2's latest product: an International Calling Card.

The company says it's cleaning up what it describes as a "scammy" market by offering competitive charges from just 1p per minute.
