New research shows M2M adoption up 80% year-on-year

A new research report published by Vodafone shows that global M2M adoption has increased by more than 80% since last year, with over a fifth of companies now actively using the technology.

This figure is expected to keep growing, with the number of machine-to-machine connected devices forecast to increase from 4.4 billion this year to 10.3 billion devices by 2018.

New security measures have been put in place for customers flying from the UK to the USA.

Electronic devices, including mobile phones and laptop computers, may now need to be switched on as part of the security screening process for hand baggage.

Volkswagen takes over BlackBerry research & development centre in Europe

The Volkswagen Group has agreed to take over BlackBerry’s European research and development centre, which is based in the German city of Bochum.

As part of the acquisition, it’s created a new business called Volkswagen Infotainment GmbH.

Vodafone to deliver fibre-optic broadband in Ireland alongside power lines

Vodafone Ireland has signed a joint venture agreement with Irish energy company ESB to provide fibre optic broadband from 2015. It’s a €450 million project that’ll offer speeds of between 200Mbps and 1000 Mbps.

ESB began looking for a ‘fibre-to-the-building’ network partner in September 2012, eventually choosing Vodafone after a competitive tender process.

UK businesses expected to spend more than £2 billion on mobile advertising this year

Spending on mobile advertising is expected to exceed £2 billion ($3.16 billion) this year, a 96% increase from last year’s total of £1.03 billion ($1.61 billion).

That’s according to the latest UK media ad spending estimates from research company eMarketer.
