Gametel accessory turns Android phones into game consoles

This week Swedish gaming peripheral company Fructel has launched a Bluetooth wireless controller for Android handsets and tablets.

The Gametel can clip to the edge of an Android smartphone, transforming it into a game device that bears more than a passing resemblance to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

Jawbone fitness-focused wristband is hitting the shops

Mobile accessory manufacturer Jawbone, probably best known for its noise-reducing Bluetooth headsets, has revealed more details about the UP wristband it announced in June.

Jawbone’s UP wristband works in conjunction with an iPhone application to track the wearer’s daily activity, sleep patterns and eating habits.

110 million USB mobile broadband modems expected to ship this year

The USB ‘dongle’ is still the most popular form factor for mobile broadband modems, according to a new report from ABI Research.

It estimates that 110 million USB units will ship worldwide this year, contributing to a total of 150 million mobile broadband modems that are expected to be shipped worldwide in 2011. That’s 46% growth year-on-year.

Bluetooth introduces 'Smart' branding for low-power devices

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group is adding two new brand extensions to its logo: the Bluetooth Smart Ready trademark and the Bluetooth Smart trademark.

Both refer to compatibility with version 4.0 of Bluetooth, which supports low-power peripherals.
