Alcatel has already declared that its new One Touch Fire is the world’s first smartphone running Moxilla’s Firefox OS - but Mozilla says it’s also working with LG and ZTE to build the first Firefox OS devices… and notes that Huawei will follow later in the year.
These first-generation Firefox smartphones are expected to launch in Brazil, Colombia, Hungary, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain and Venezuela.

Huawei has used Mobile World Congress 2013 to introduce the Huawei Ascend P2, which it’s describing as the world’s fastest smartphone.
The speed refers to the ‘category 4’ 4G LTE modem, which is capable of download speeds reaching 150 Mbps.

Microsoft has launched a new project designed to improve Africa’s global competitiveness. It’s called the Microsoft 4Afrika Initiative and will see Microsoft encouraging smartphone adoption, helping businesses get online and introducing more technology skills to the workplace.
The first step is a new smartphone called the Huawei 4Afrika.

I didn’t study economics at college, which is probably one of the reasons I have a very simple perspective on quarterly results. As far as I’m concerned, they fall into one of three categories: much as expected, better than expected or worse than expected. Anyway, it’s the time of year when some of the biggest names in the mobile telecoms industry publish their financial results – so here we go.
