New Microsoft Surface Pro 3 promises to be 'the tablet that can replace your laptop'

Microsoft has announced the third generation of its own-brand tablet devices, which were first launched in June 2012.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 has a 12-inch Full HD display and runs Windows 8.1 Pro on a choice of Intel Core processors.

Samsung moves closer to Apple as tablet sales pass 41 million for Q1 2014

New estimates from ABI Research show that 41.3 million branded tablets were shipped worldwide in the first calendar quarter of 2014.

Apple and Samsung accounted for 71% of the total, putting them well ahead of their competitors.

Nokia completes its Devices & Services deal with Microsoft

Nokia has sold most of its Devices & Services business to Microsoft, as originally announced in September last year. The deal also includes an agreement to license patents to Microsoft.

Although the deal was originally worth €5.44 billion (£4.48 billion), Nokia says it now expects the total transaction price to be slightly higher than this.

Microsoft joins the Power Matters Alliance wireless charging group

The Power Matters Alliance (PMA) has announced that Microsoft Corporation is its newest member.

Originally formed in 2012, PMA is an organisation working towards global interoperability for wireless charging. Board members currently include AT&T, Duracell, Starbucks and the US Government’s Energy Star programme.
