Sony Ericsson introduces world's smallest HD video recording smartphone

Sony Ericsson has added two new members to its Xperia smartphone family. Both run Android v2.3 on a 1GHz processor, offering a 5 megapixel camera, 720p HD video recording and a 3-inch screen.

The new Xperia mini is just 88mm x 52mm x 16mm, weighing 94g, while the Xperia mini pro is slightly larger to accommodate a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Sony Ericsson quarterly figures show profit down but smartphone sales doing well

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications has published its results for the first quarter of 2011.

8.1 million devices were shipped in Q1 2011, compared with 10.5 million during the same quarter in 2010. However, the average selling price and gross margin were both up.

Internal promotions create new Sony Ericsson marketing and communications chiefs

Cathy Davies is the new Global Head of Communications and PR at Sony Ericsson, following last week's decision by Aldo Liguori to step down from the post. Steve Walker, currently acting Head of Marketing, is becoming the new Global Head of Marketing.

Cathy was previously Head of Brand & Strategy at the company, having joined Sony Ericsson in 2008 from Ford Motor Company. Steve's been with the venture since its establishment almost ten years ago.

Day One at Mobile World Congress: listen to the podcast

James Rosewell and Mark Bridge from The Fonecast are in Barcelona this week to report on the events at Mobile World Congress.
