Microsoft announces new games for Windows Phone 7

New smartphones running the Windows Phone 7 operating system are expected within just a few weeks. In anticipation, Microsoft has announced a batch of around 50 mobile games at gaming showcase gamescom 2010 – and has also explained more about the way their phones will link with the Xbox LIVE online service. As well as new games and versions of popular classics there'll also be companion titles to familiar Xbox 360 games.

Oracle files Java-related lawsuit against Google over Android

Business computing company Oracle has filed a legal complaint against Google for patent and copyright infringement. It centres on Google's use of Java software. Oracle took control of Java when it bought Sun Microsystems a few months ago.

Smudges on touchscreen phones can reveal passwords, warn researchers

A study presented at WOOT 10 – the 4th USENIX Workshop on Offensive Technologies – warns that it's relatively straightforward to identify passwords from smudges on touchscreen mobile phones. 'Smudge Attacks on Smartphone Touch Screens' was presented by researchers from the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania.

Google introduces voice control and browser sync for Android

Google has introduced two new features for the ‘Froyo’ Android 2.2 mobile operating system today. It’s added a new Chrome to Phone extension to its desktop Chrome web browser that synchronises information - a web page, map, YouTube video, selected phone number or text - to an Android device.

Android becomes top-selling smartphone operating system in the USA

Research company Gartner says worldwide mobile device sales reached 325.6 million units in the second quarter of 2010, a 13.8% increase year-on-year. 19% of all those sales were smartphones, up 50.5% from Q2 2009.
