Worldwide shipments of GPS-enabled GSM/WCDMA (3G) mobile phones were up 178.6% in 2008, according to a new research report by Berg Insight. The number of shipments is expected to continue growing by 46.5% per year, reaching 770 million units in 2014. Berg Insight says GPS technology is now a standard feature on smartphones and will start to appear on mid-range handsets in late 2009. [Press release]
