A UK-based business has launched an internet search engine designed specifically for smartphone users. The only results returned are those linking to mobile-optimised websites.
Mazoom, which operates mazoom.mobi, provides news, local business information and information about mobile apps in the UK and the USA. It’s aiming to offer the largest index of mobile content available to smartphone users.
Alex Persh, one of the company’s co-founders, said “The mobile web is still developing and many big companies are trying to push people towards their tightly controlled Apps, giving them greater control over their audience’s experience. This runs counter to the ideal of the open web, and we believe the founding principles of openness and interlinked content should remain in the mobile era. By building mazoom, we hope to encourage more companies to embrace mobile in the form of websites as well as apps.”
Around 700 million smartphones are expected to be shipped worldwide this year.
