New Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A is equipped for the faster 4G speeds of LTE-Advanced

Samsung Electronics has announced a new addition to its Galaxy S4 smartphone range.

Its Galaxy S4 LTE-A is described as the world’s first commercially available LTE-Advanced smartphone, which means it’s capable of supporting data speeds even faster than standard 4G connections.

The phone will launch this simmer in South Korea, where SK Telecom has just launched a commercial LTE-Advanced service. This offers network speeds of up to 150 Mbps; twice as fast as the standard LTE service and 10 times faster than 3G. It means an 800MB movie could be downloaded in just 43 seconds.

Inside the Galaxy S4 LTE-A is a faster processor than the original S4: this model runs Android 4.2.2 on Qualcomm’s 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip. It has a 5-inch HD screen and 32GB of expandable memory.

JK Shin, CEO and President of the IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, said “Samsung maintains a unique position for delivering LTE innovations as a provider of the parts, devices and equipment required to deliver next generation 4G LTE services. The introduction of the GALAXY S4 LTE-A demonstrates Samsung’s desire and ability to provide consumers with technological innovations that take advantage of increased network speeds to deliver richer and fuller experiences.”
