A few weeks ago, TechCrunch.com reported on Apple’s apparent rejection of the Google Voice application for the iPhone. In a headline that read Apple Is Growing Rotten To The Core, they blamed AT&T - Apple’s exclusive network partner in the USA - for being behind what was seen as an anti-competitive move.
Next, the Federal Communications Commission, which regulates communications in the USA, asked Apple, AT&T and Google to tell them what was going on.
Now Apple has published a public response that says it’s still considering Google Voice and hasn’t rejected it. It also says AT&T wasn’t involved in this specific decision, although Apple’s agreement with AT&T prevents Apple from including any VoIP functionality in an iPhone without AT&T’s permission.
AT&T has confirmed that it wasn’t involved in Apple’s decision to not accept the Google Voice application. It’ll be interesting to see whether Google publishes any response – and to see how the story ends.
