Today’s Black Hat technical security conference in Las Vegas will see Charlie Miller and Collin Mulliner explaining how a bug in the iPhone could be exploited to take control of the device. The two researchers say a series of text messages – most of which wouldn’t be seen – could let a hacker take control of any iPhone function. The only indication would be the first text message containing a single square.

The pair say they told Apple of the flaw over a month ago – and they’ve found a similar problem in Windows Mobile (or is that ‘Windows Phone’?) devices. Android devices were also found to be susceptible to malicious text messages but were issued with a ‘patch’ within a few days. [Sources: Forbes.com; CNET.com]
