A new internet application called ‘ipadio’ has launched today, enabling people to broadcast themselves live on the internet from their mobile phone. ipadio broadcasts and records your telephone call, which means it can be used from any mobile phone and from almost anywhere in the world.

The service can be used for ‘phonecasting’ live events or for phone blogging (which has been described as 'phlogging'). The recording is then available online. ipadio has been developed by digital communications company Nemisys and is free for consumer use (except for the calls, which are either to an 020 or an 0845 UK number). Qik already offers a similar service that broadcasts live video over 3G or WiFi. [Press release]

This looks very interesting - I like that it can be done from any phone, even a landline I guess, and not just an iPhone like one I saw recently. I will be interested to see what happens with this.

Thanks for the news Mark - much appreciated. The comparison to Qik is fair - however we're dedicated to making this not dependent on 3G or Wifi - and to always work via standard telephony - that way you get the biggest reach. That said we'll throw in an iphone app and a g-phone app just for fun (next few days - I'll let you know). Like you I love radio and video (unless it's TV quality) rarely does it for me.
