Mobile content and commerce community MEF has launched a free online tool to help developers follow best practice when dealing with personal information from consumers. It’s called AppPrivacy and will generate a customised privacy policy after a developer has answered some basic questions about their mobile app. The easy-to-understand policy is created as HTML code that can either be embedded in the app or hosted online.

AppPrivacy was developed by AgencyMobile for MEF’s Privacy in Mobile Apps Working Group, which was founded last year and includes representatives from Dentons, Evidon, InMobi, Kaspersky Labs, Mozilla, TRUSTe, Preiskel & Co and Vodafone.

Andrew Bud, global chair of MEF, said “Consumers’ trust in our industry will be built on transparency and ease of understanding in dealing with their private data. That’s a tough combination to deliver, and our research shows that many providers have struggled with it. Now, building on the expertise of our cross-stakeholder group, AppPrivacy delivers credible, practical solutions to ensure best practice in our industry.”
