National 999 text service to be trialled this autumn

Last month we talked about a trial scheme by mobile technology company 2ergo, which let members of the public with hearing or speech impairments send an emergency SMS text message to the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. The BBC is now reporting that a 999 text service will be launched as a national trial this autumn, with the possibility of a full service in place during 2010.
