As the UK debate about mobile termination rates rumbles on (with INTUG, the international telecommunications group, becoming the latest organisation to support the Terminate the Rate alliance), the European Commission is taking legal action against Germany for setting mobile termination rates without proper consultation.

EU Telecoms Commissioner Viviane Reding says Germany’s national regulator, the Bundesnetzagentur, didn’t consult the commission and other national regulators before it set new levels of mobile termination rates in April. The German government now has two months to respond to the infringement procedure notice; the case could end up at the European Court of Justice if isn’t resolved. [Press release]
