UK telecoms regulator Ofcom has looked back at the mobile boom over the last ten years. It's published some figures to remind us how popular mobiles have become during the decade.

We now have more mobile subscriptions in the UK than people; an incredible 77 million mobile numbers.

Back in 1999 the average household made ten minutes of mobile calls and sent one text every week. Four years later, we were up to almost half an hour of calls and fifteen texts a month. Ofcom points out that the last ten years have also seen plenty of new products and services, including the introduction of MVNOs, 18-month and 24-month contracts, application stores and SIM-only deals.
