The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the body responsible for international electro-technology standards, has published its universal phone charger standard for data-enabled mobile telephones.
It covers all aspects of the charger, connector and plug, as well as safety, interoperability and environmental considerations.

New figures from Berg Insight indicate that the number of mobile network connections used for wireless machine-to-machine communication reached 81.4 million at the end of 2010.
That’s a 46% increase on the previous year.

Research company Canalys says the Android operating system has become the world’s leading smartphone platform.
Its calculations show that 32.9 million Android-based smartphones were shipped worldwide in Q4 2010, followed by 31 million devices running Nokia’s Symbian platform.

Qype, which offers user-generated reviews and recommendations for locations across Europe, has just acquired its millionth member.
Those members have written more than 1.5 million public reviews covering places, events and experiences in 159,000 European towns and cities.
