Recycling an unwanted mobile phone makes sense. It's good for the environment and it generates cash as well.

Newer phones recycled in Western Europe are likely to be reconditioned and resold locally, while older models may be reconditioned for use in developing countries. Damaged phones are either used for spares or are broken down for the metals and minerals in their components.

But what happens when people in those developing countries need to recycle their phones?

We're talking about Nortel patents, Google Plus, roaming charges and health concerns in this week's mobile industry podcast... but that's not all. We also discuss mobile payments, security, gambling, apps and the Pope's first Tweet.

The European Parliament says member states should publicise the 112 emergency number in doctors' surgeries, pharmacies, schools, universities, airports and railway stations.

A survey published earlier this year found that only 26% of EU citizens could spontaneously identify 112 as the number to call in an emergency abroad.

Last month Juniper Research said the number of mobile phone users making payments for digital goods was expected to reach 2.5 billion worldwide by 2015, a 40% increase from this year's forecast of 1.8 billion.

It's now published a new study that looks at all mobile money transactions. The company says the total value of mobile payments for digital and physical goods, money transfers and NFC transactions will reach $670 billion by 2015.
